About The Role

Join Anglicare as an Aboriginal Mental Health Worker and make a difference in the lives of people with mental health challenges.  

As an Aboriginal Mental Health Worker, your main purpose will be to provide a range of case management, outreach and recovery-oriented supports to improve the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal people. Working in collaboration and partnership with local health and support organisations, you will aim to deliver mental health assessment, treatment, support, advocacy, and information services that prioritise cultural sensitivity and safety. 

This is a Permanent Part-Time position, 3 days a week based at Nowra.

About You


We are seeking a candidate who embodies a deep understanding and respect for the cultural traditions, beliefs, and practices of Indigenous communities, enabling effective communication and connection with clients and community. The following skills and attributes will greatly contribute to your success in this role: 

  • Identify as Aboriginal
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or minimum Certificate 4 in Community Services (Mental Health) or equivalent experience in related area of work.
  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of casework, case management or counselling services.
  • A sound knowledge of Aboriginal/ Torres Strait Islander communities and relevant organisations within Shoalhaven.
  • Have a demonstrated understanding of social & emotional health and wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • NSW Drivers licence
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment, as well as independently.
  • Covid-19 vaccination is strongly recommended
  • Current paid Working with Children's Check (WWC)
